Urgent Message from Gators for Higher Education

Michael Nathanson on May 27, 2010

Governor Crist has encouraged supporters of the University of Florida to contact his office to weigh in on behalf of funding for a UF academic and research building at Lake Nona.  The Governor made his comment yesterday in Orlando, when he said he might veto the $20 million project.

The building will house UF researchers who will collaborate with scientists from the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, located next door to the UF site. They will focus on diabetes, aging, genetics and cancer research. Both UF and Sanford-Burnham investigators have an international reputation in diabetes research. Bringing researchers from both institutions together has clear potential for major progress in this critical area. The same is true for many aspects of aging, cancer and genetics research.

Governor Crist has until tomorrow – Friday, May 28 – to decide whether he will veto the UF project.  Please go to the Gators For Higher Ed website now to get more information on how to send an email to the Governor or email Governor Crist at Charlie.Crist@MyFlorida.com or call 850-488-7146.
